2016 Interior Design Style Guide
Every year styles change and evolve, but it is easy to stay current with a few simple updates to refresh your home. You don’t need to ditch every piece of furniture and décor to match the latest trend. Adding an accent piece or a new area rug can make all the difference while keeping you on a budget.
The Rug Fashion Store design team takes pride in keeping up with current style trends in interior design. We visit four international rug and home décor shows a year (so you don’t have to).
Here is what we’ve found for 2016:
Color
2016 is a year of softer colors. Rose Quartz and Serenity are at the forefront. Rose Quartz is a warm, light pink and Serenity is a soft, tranquil blue and the blending of this warm shade and cool shade is meant to reflect a soothing sense of peace in life. These calming colors can be easily incorporated into a print on your wall, a home accent piece, or in living room rugs.
Here are a couple of ideas for inspiration:
- Loloi's Anastasia collection is a wonderful example of blending illuminating color and intricate detail in a distressed heirloom style that gives the appearance of being a fine rug made by hand. Even better, the Anastasia collection is made of polypropylene and polyester, so it is durable and easy to clean. Anastasia is available in various sizes including rounds and runners.
From the Suzani collection inspired by the decorative tribal embroidery that dates back to the 18th century, this gorgeous fine wool rug has a fresh and cheerful update, modernized in today's fashion-forward color palette.
Designed for the little boy or girl's room in your home, Lola Shag features the perfect kid's rug traits: incredible softness, plush pile, and fun color and pattern. Each piece is hand-tufted in India of 100% polyester microfiber, with an exceptional high and low texture that makes the design pop.
Gold
Gold has been in style for ages and it isn’t going anywhere. Gold returns to the design spotlight periodically and this is one of those years. If you’re a fan of gold, you’re in luck!
Gold allows a chance to break free from the matte colors found on your walls and furniture. Make sure to not go gold crazy and fill up one room in your house with everything gold.
You’re guaranteed to get compliments from house guests on the gold threads of your rug or the shiny globe bookends sitting on your bookcase.
Florals
Floral patterns are coming back this year in artwork, chairs, pillows, and area rugs. Floral offers the exciting chance to bring a splash of color to your scene. A small floral rug can transform a room into a fun and playful space.
Not all floral patterns are bright, detailed representations of flowers. There are many options if you’re looking for something soft and understated. Layer your floral patterns with solid colors in the same color scheme. This will add variety to a room and prevent the florals from appearing overly feminine.
